It is all about love…

In a 38-year career as a counselor in the Austin school district, Arlene helped teens through all kinds of issues – among them unplanned pregnancies. She adapted quickly to the role of peer advocate at HTPRC.

“It’s an extension of love,” she explained. “Love comes in doing for people, and Jesus said if you’ve done this for the least of these, you’ve done it unto me.”

Arlene, who retired from AISD in 2016, is a member of Greater Mt. Zion Church. When she learned of the church’s initiative to help single parents and pregnant teens, she said, she knew she had found a perfect volunteering opportunity at HTPRC, where moms are offered many, many resources, all given freely and with much love.

“If these were your sons or daughters, and there became a need,” she said, “you would want someone to love them without anything expected in return.”
